The Modern and Alternative Lists
In 1922, Emily Post published the first list of wedding anniversary gifts in her book “Etiquette”. The original list suggested items to gift each year like appliances, silverware, gold and diamonds. This original publication sparked the popularity of themed anniversary gifts.
In the 1950’s the list was updated to the ‘modern’ version which includes gemstones. Although the list has been edited multiple times over the years with no official version, this ‘modern’ list has been endorsed by many of the largest fine jewelry organizations such as the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), Jewelers of America (JA), American Gem Society (AGS) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
